ד"ר עדינה בנקיר-קארפ היא חוקרת זהות יהודית, חינוך והתקשרות קהילתית, המתמקדת במיוחד בחקר התפוצות. היא מרצה במחלקה תולדות ישראל ויהדות זמננו באוניברסיטת בר-אילן וחוקרת במרכז האוסטרלי לתרבות יהודית- (Australian Centre for Jewish  Civilisation).

מחקריה משלבים שיטות איכותניות וכמותיות לבחינת הדרכים בהן זהות יהודית מתעצבת מתוך חוויות חינוכיות, קהילתיות, הגירה ואירועים היסטוריים קריטיים. עבודת הדוקטורט שלה באוניברסיטת מונאש, Catalysts of Connectedness, בחנה את תהליך גיבוש הזהות של צעירים יהודים באוסטרליה וזכתה במדליית מולי הולמן על הצטיינות בדוקטורט.

עדינה כיהנה בתפקידים אקדמיים ומחקריים באוסטרליה, בישראל ובארצות הברית, בהם במרכז כהן ללימודי יהדות מודרנית באוניברסיטת ברנדייס, ובמרכז המחקר הקהילתי של ה־Orthodox Union בניו יורק. בנוסף, היא תורמת לקהילה האקדמית בתפקידה כעורכת משנה בכתב העת  זContemporary Jewry וכחברת ועד מנהל באגודה ללימודים סוציולוגיים של יהדות (ASSJ).

עדינה פרסמה וערכה עשרות מאמרים בכתבי עת שפיטים, פרקים בספרים ודוחות מחקריים בתחומי הדמוגרפיה היהודית, הזהות והחינוך, ומחקריה מוצגים בקביעות בכנסים בינלאומיים מובילים.

מחקר

ד"ר עדינה בנקייר- קארפ : תחומי עניין מחקריים

מחקרה של עדינה משתרע על פני עיצוב זהות יהודית, לימודי תפוצות וסוציולוגיה של הדת. תחומי העניין העיקריים שלה כוללים:

  • זהות יהודית והשתייכות – בחינת האופן בו חוויות קריטיות, חינוך ורשתות משפחתיות מעצבים את תחושת השייכות היהודית.

  • קהילות בתפוצות – מחקרים השוואתיים של קהילות יהודיות במדינות דוברות אנגלית, תוך התמקדות בהגירה, שינוי בין-דורי והתאמות תרבותיות.

  • חינוך והעברת ערכים – תפקיד החינוך הפורמלי והבלתי-פורמלי בעיצוב ערכים, פילנתרופיה ומעורבות קהילתית.

  • דת ובריאות נפשית – חקירת השפעתם של פרקטיקות דתיות, משאבים קהילתיים ומשברים (כגון מגפת הקורונה ומלחמת 7 באוקטובר) על רווחה נפשית.

  • שיטות סקר ודמוגרפיה יהודית – תכנון וניתוח סקרים רחבי היקף להבנת הדינמיקה של הקהילות היהודיות בנות זמננו ולקידום תכנון קהילתי.
